Proudly Laudium, Globally Focused: ALI SA Fellow Ismail Dockrat Takes Up COO Role at South African Tourism

South African Tourism’s announcement of ALI SA Fellow, Ismail Dockrat (Class III: Seriti) as Chief Operating Officer from 1 May 2026 is a proud moment for both the organisation and the Laudium community he calls home. It signals a strengthening of South Africa’s tourism leadership at a time when the sector is sharpening its global ambitions and repositioning the country as a competitive, world‑class destination. For our ALI SA community, it is also a moment to acknowledge the journey of a Fellow whose career reflects the ethos of ethical leadership and service to the Good Society.

Those who have followed his path will know that Ismail brings more than 25 years of executive experience across aviation, aerospace manufacturing, logistics and distribution, trade and investment and tourism promotion, underpinned by his engineering background and MBA from the University of Cape Town. His track record includes senior roles at institutions such as the CSIR, Armscor, Trade and Investment South Africa (TISA), Wesgro, Denel and Glodina, where he has been recognised for leading organisational turnarounds, strengthening governance and driving digital transformation. This depth of experience is exactly what South African Tourism is drawing on as it completes its executive team to navigate a changing global tourism landscape.

Speaking to Laudium Today about his appointment, Ismail described it as an honour to serve his “beautiful country” and to promote South Africa as a “world‑class tourist destination”, emphasising a focus on operational excellence, innovation and collaboration across the tourism ecosystem. His appointment, alongside that of Sithembile Ndaba as Chief Marketing Officer from 1 April 2026, reflects a deliberate effort to pair strong operational capability with strategic marketing leadership to drive South Africa’s tourism growth. For those who were not at the event or may have missed the original coverage, this is not just a title change – it is a meaningful step in positioning South African Tourism, and leaders from our Fellows network, at the forefront of the country’s next chapter in tourism.
