The landscape of work is changing fast and drastically. In many parts of the world we see the phenomenon of “the great resignation” from office jobs in order to work from home, whereas in Africa the phenonenon is that of the “great application”, with our youth desperately in need of work. There is growth of insecure part time contracts worldwide, and the need to really recognise care work as work.
Sharmi Surianarain were in conversation with Laetitia Vitaud and Hilary Cottam on 22 September about what good work means today and what good work should be.
During the conversation Leatitia Vitaud observed: “The ways we work have seen huge changes in recent years. Technology has reformed entire sectors, remote working has become commonplace and age demographics have shifted as more people retire early or rethink their chosen careers. Such huge changes mean that the ways we measure good work are now outdated.”
Let’s hope this conversation is an active start towards a changed good work future.
