ALI SA Fellow Thomas Brennan (Class XVI: Umsimbithi), CEO and Co-founder of Franc, has shared Franc’s inaugural Wealth Index Report, a data-backed look at financial wellbeing in South Africa.
Drawing on almost 4,000 responses, the report sets South Africa’s national Wealth Score at 45 out of 100 and shows that behaviour is a stronger predictor of financial wellbeing than income, age or education.
It also points to high debt levels and limited emergency savings as key pressure points, while describing South Africa as “caught between awareness and action”.
The Franc Wealth Index is both a practical tool and a leadership prompt: if behaviour is the strongest driver of financial wellbeing, then the systems, workplaces and communities around people should make good habits easier, not harder. The Wealth Score is available for free on Franc’s platform, offering individuals a three-minute snapshot of their Resilience, Growth and Mindset.
