Connecting Township Communities to New Possibilities

What becomes possible when where you live no longer determines the quality of internet you can access? For ALI SA Fellow Van Zyl Botha (Class XIII: Akani), CEO of Herotel, that question is taking practical shape in Jouberton, Kanana and Siyabuswa, where fibre connectivity did not previously exist.

The significance reaches beyond faster internet. Schools can gain access to video-based education, cloud platforms and online resources, while local businesses can use enterprise-grade connectivity previously associated with South Africa’s major metropolitan areas. More than 3,000 customers are already connected, with these three communities forming the starting point of Herotel’s plan to extend the infrastructure to the next one million homes.

A MyBroadband partner article, presented by ZTE, explores the first deployments and what access to the same quality of broadband infrastructure as South Africa’s major cities could mean for families, schools and businesses.

Read how this rollout is beginning to close a connectivity gap that has persisted for decades.

Thanks to our valued partners and to all the Fellows who continue to contribute in many ways.
