We take this moment to congratulate Thina Siwendu. After a grueling selection process by the JSC commission panel in Cape Town, Thina Siwendu; Class III – Seriti and ALI SA board member, has recently been appointed as Judge of the High Court: Gauteng local division. This announcement comes as a great honour for Thina who has over two decades of experience in law. She holds a B.Soc.Sci from the University of Cape Town (1988) as well as an LLB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (1991).
As a Social Scientist, a critical and forward thinker, Thina has impressively advised a variety of private and state – owned companies in the areas of Corporate Governance and Board Effectiveness throughout her career. Her passion for law and her love for justice led her to pen a thought-provoking piece on women in the legal profession in 2013 titled: Legal Monopoly and Gender Transformation. She continues to explore ideas and models for an inclusive new vision for Law in South Africa.
There is no doubt that her successful years as Acting Judge in the Gauteng Local Division has equipped her for this new role. We know she will serve the people of Gauteng and the country with honesty and loyalty, and all for the greater good of our Constitution.
