ALI would like to congratulate YALI Fellow Phathutshedzo Madima for his appointment as the new non-executive director and advisor of the Young African Entrepreneurs Institute (YAEI). The non-profit youth development organisation focuses on well-rounded career development by integrating employability, entrepreneurship and mentorship for diversified post-schooling opportunities in South Africa.
With over ten years of experience in corporate, Phathu has held several positions in major companies including De Beers, Anglo American, Accenture and Deloitte, focusing on research, business development and consulting services for the mining industry. He is passionate about youth development in rural communities. He has done community work through his organisation, Motivate A Rural Child, and regularly speaks at youth development events. “We are confident that his experience and expertise will go a long way in contributing towards achieving the organisational objectives for youth development in South Africa,” says Risuna Maluleke, executive director of YAEI.
Phathu is currently the head of SCM and Capital Projects at SoluGrowth (Pty) Ltd.
He holds a BSc (Hons) in Metallurgical Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Business Administration) and a certificate in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is currently pursuing an MSc in Mineral Economics at Wits.
