News from the global network: CALI Fellow Arturo Condo leads Earth University

As a member of a global network of industry pioneers in the private and public sector, and civil society, we value the act of honouring all Fellows of the Aspen network. This month, we would like to recognise and highlight the achievements of Dr Arturo Condo, a Fellow of the Central America Leadership Initiative (CALI), a foundation that is a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.

Espousing similar ideals to ALI, CALI is “a nonprofit organisation that identifies and motivates effective and successful young leaders across Central America, who are capable of guiding their countries as they struggle to align the social and economic demands of the region with local visions of a good society.” As the president of EARTH University, Dr Condo is one such individual, committed to working towards socio-economic development and sustainability in rural areas.

A Fellow of the inaugural CALI class, Dr Condo has extensive experience in strategic planning and global strategy. He is the former director of the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development. In 2007, he was recognised as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. He is currently the president of EARTH University, an innovative global school educating leaders for sustainable development, especially for rural areas of the world. The institution equips young leaders from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and other regions with the knowledge and skills they need to contribute to the sustainable development of their home communities while constructing a prosperous and just global society.

Dr Condo is passionate about higher education and Latin America’s increasing role in the world. He is a strong believer in the power of youth to change the world. His research has focused on the development of a sustainable competitive advantage by Latin American firms both locally, regionally and globally. In addition to being the President of EARTH University, he serves as the senior institute associate of Harvard’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness.

Dr Condo is an example of the type of innovative and socially conscious leadership the Aspen Institute is trying to cultivate. We look forward to sharing the great work and profiles of other Fellows in our global network.

Thanks to our valued partners and to all the Fellows who continue to contribute in many ways.
