Jerry Anthonyrajah grew up in Brits, South Africa, where an early love for numbers and problem-solving set him on an unexpected and rewarding path. He studied Actuarial Science as an undergraduate, which he genuinely enjoyed, but realised he was more energised by working with people and businesses than by a purely technical career.
In 2007, Jerry joined McKinsey & Company, where he was exposed to the worlds of strategy and transformation and learned how organisations really work. A few years later, he headed to New York to complete his MBA at Columbia Business School, an experience that shaped both his thinking and his leadership. He returned to McKinsey & Company after that, but by 2013 he felt a strong pull to move closer to the action and be inside organisations as they navigated important moments of change.
That desire to work on turnarounds and transformations led him to Edcon in 2015. Over time, Jerry held a variety of leadership roles and eventually had the privilege of leading Jet Africa, helping steer a well-loved retail brand through significant commercial and operational change.
In 2020, he joined Old Mutual Insure as Chief Commercial Officer. He now spends his time focused on growing and incubating businesses in short-term insurance, finding the most rewarding part to be building great teams and creating a legacy.
Outside of work, Jerry’s world revolves around family, cricket, the mountains and style. He also co-owns a bespoke suiting business with his brother and close friends, a passion project that combines craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and a love of looking sharp.
