
James has over 25 years of diverse experience in both the public and private sectors and having worked extensively across Africa. He has professional qualifications in engineering (BSc Eng) and finance (CA(SA)) and a broad knowledge of the energy sector. Prior to taking on the challenge of establishing the Energy Council of South Africa, James was a PwC Strategy & Principal with a specific focus on the energy transition and Net Zero.
James joined the Energy Council of South Africa as its first CEO, working with business leaders to shape and grow an organisation anchored on ethical and skilled leadership across the energy sector. Representing broad business interests and being a trusted partner to government.
The CEO role has given him an amazing opportunity to help shape the vision and implementation of a sustainable energy transition and inclusive economic growth for South Africa. This is a privilege but also a responsibility that he takes pride in and is extremely passionate about. He says that while the organisation has exceeded expectations in the energy sector, there is still much to be done and that it must act decisively and remain resilient in its efforts.
