Fumani Mthembi

Director: Sustainability at Pele Energy Group

Fumani is a co-founder of the Pele Energy Group, a renewable energy and development organisation, established in 2009. She is a group executive, accountable for impact investments, research and ESG.

Her core passion is economic development which she expresses in Pele as the driver of the Group’s strategy in respect of the economic revival of the peri-urban and rural communities that host Pele’s energy assets. Fumani holds an MA Science, Society & Development from Sussex University, a BA Honours Politics & Development from Wits University, a BCom Politics, Philosophy & Economics from the University of Cape Town and has also completed courses in Financial Modelling & Analysis, African Development Economics as well as the Regulatory Financial Representatives Exam.

She has published papers on renewable energy and development through UNISA, MISTRA, UK PACT and the Centre For Sustainability Transitions at Stellenbosch University. Fumani currently sits on the boards of the National Business Initiative and the First Rand Empowerment Foundation
