Rahel Wondwossen was born and raised in Ethiopia and moved to Boston, Massachusetts, USA at the age of ten. A lifelong educator, most of her professional career has focused on supporting start up school organisations, first as a teacher and later as a School Leader. Rahel later transitioned to consulting, focusing on supporting executive team dynamics, organisational culture and school leader coaching across a portfolio of schools.
Rahel moved to South Africa to join the Nova Pioneer School Group in 2018. Nova Pioneer is a Pan-African independent school network, currently operating 15 schools in South Africa and Kenya, focused on preparing the next generation of African leaders and innovators through world-class teaching methods. She currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer, supporting academic and non academic teams across the organisation, and is passionate about teaching, learning and organisational systems.
Beyond Nova Pioneer, Rahel serves on the advisory board of Kizazi, an organisation founded to help individuals, governments and nongovernmental agents build transformative school models in Africa and Asia. She also currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Kepler, a youth empowerment organisation in Rwanda, currently supporting tertiary education and employment pathways for young people in Rwanda, various UNHCR camps, Uganda and Ethiopia.
