Andrew was born and raised in South Africa and grew up on a farm in the Kwazulu-Natal Midlands in the shadows of the iconic uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. Walking, riding, fishing, and exploring these hills were part of growing up. He had the privilege of visiting many amazing, conservation areas and it was spending time in these magical wild spaces that his love of Africa and its wildlife was ignited.
He started off his career as a guide where he had the opportunity to share the wonders of Africa with international visitors at places like Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, Sabi Sands, Mala Mala, Kirkman’s Kamp before moving onto Phinda Private Game Reserve in a management role. Spending time immersed in wildlife and nature in Africa shaped Andrew into who his is and his beliefs. Working in the bush he started to learn the extraordinary effort it took to conserve Africa’s last wild places. After completing his undergraduate degrees at Rhodes University, he attained a post graduate diploma in Business Management from Wits Business School and a Masters’ Degree cum laude in Environmental Management from Stellenbosch University.
In 2012, he had the opportunity to get involved with the Game Rangers Association of Africa, a 54-year-old organisation that supports rangers and their work. This was a turning point for Andrew when he was looking for meaning. He got to rub shoulders with the heart and soul of African conservation; rangers who literally put their lives on the line to protect and conserve our natural heritage. He now has the honour to be able to give back to conservation by supporting rangers and the work they do for nature. They are his inspiration.
