Karabo Motaung

Principal analyst in the advocacy division at the Competition Commission

Karabo Motaung is the Principal Analyst in the Advocacy Division at the Competition Commission. 

Karabo is an Economist by training and has extensive experience in competition and economic regulation. He holds a B.Com Honours Degree in Economics from Rhodes University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Competition Law from the University of Witwatersrand, and a Masters Degree in Competition Law & Economic Regulation from the University of Johannesburg. 

Karabo is an advocate for education and is actively involved in numerous projects that are aimed at alleviating poverty and empowering young people. Karabo fulfils the following roles: 

• She is a co-founder of Women 4 Girls SA, a mentorship programme that provides a comprehensive transitioning and personal development programme aimed at assisting female students from low- to middle-income households.  
• Karabo Co-Head of the Mentorship Pillar of Young Leaders Connect – Ideal. YLC is an initiative of the International Women’s Forum South Africa Leadership Development that aims to develop and strengthen the capability of women leaders.  
• She’s a member of the Advocacy Committee of the Women Empowerment Network of South Africa. WENOSA enables women to create valuable networks, connect to new partnerships, and access mentorship, skills development, funding and economic opportunities. 
• Director and Executive Committee member of Lend-A-Hand SA – an NPO that is focused on contributing towards poverty alleviation and empowering and uplifting young people from disadvantaged communities. 
• Non-Executive Director on the SABC Board.
