Dr Bophela is the Interim Chairman of the Board at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC). He continues to serve in most of the Board committees and is Chairperson of two: the Finance, Risk & Compliance Committee; as well as the Marketing, Infrastructure & Business Development Committee. He has delivered two of the cleanest audits in the history of the Durban ICC.
His corporate management experience spans various multinational companies including SA Breweries, Deloitte Consulting, Nampak and First National Bank. He is the former Head of Start-Up Businesses at First National Bank as a result of his entrepreneurial experience in start-up ventures in the following fields: Mining and Exploration, Engineering, and Investments and Portfolio Management.
Dr Bophela is an Anglican by faith. He has served the church as a member of the Diocese of Natal Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Adams College Educational Trust – founded in 1958 to fundraise and provide financial assistance to historically disadvantage students.
Dr Bophela’s academic qualifications include a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an MBA from Bond University (Australia) and a BSc (Hons) Biotechnology from Wolverhampton University (England).
