Zanele Mochechela

Manager FUEL Trust

Zanele is an influential and authentic individual who is part of the senior leadership team at FUEL, who have partnered with the Department of Basic Education’s (DBE) National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) to ensure that more than 9 million learners are served a nutritious meal on time each school day. Learners that receive nutritious meals on time are more likely to go to school, to stay at school and to concentrate while at school.

She leads a team that is responsible for the embedding and institutionalisation of a methodology called “Monitoring, Reporting and Response” (MRR) which is core to the DBE being able to support and hold schools accountable to serving nutritious meals on time. She manages relationships with senior leaders at DBE in all 9 provinces as well as at the National level.

Prior to working at FUEL, Zanele worked with a few NGO’s such as Childline where her contribution was mainly empowering children across all municipalities to make good decisions about their lives. Zanele also did a lot of community work when she belonged to a consortium of NGO’s in 2011 and she currently sits on the board of a safe center situated north of Pretoria.

Zanele holds a bachelor’s and honor’s degree in Development and is busy completing her Master’s degree in Personal and Professional Leadership. Zanele is passionate about children and music. She experiences purpose and meaning in life when she feels like she is contributing towards solving the country’s biggest problems and when she feels like she is giving hope to people around her. She is divorced and blessed with two beautiful girls.

Thanks to our valued partners and to all the Fellows who continue to contribute in many ways.
