Themba is an innovative and entrepreneurial business leader who founded Discovery Insure Ltd, a Short-term Insurance Company launched in 2011. He worked on the Discovery Insure vision against all the rebuttals until it came to fruition. The Discovery Insure work propelled him to win the 2018 AABLA Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He was honoured as a 2015 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (WEF-YGL).
Themba is the President and chairman of the board of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) and is a board member of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, Curro Holdings, and CalgroM3 Holdings among others. He was a Member of the YPO Africa Region Board for 2 years where he led the adoption of the Mentorship Programme in various countries in Africa.
Themba is a committed long distance runner and he has been running for more than 30 years. He was awarded the Green Number in 2012 (for obtaining Ten Comrades Marathon-89.9kms Medals) and has completed 15 Comrades Marathons in total. He continues to run to this day with a current streak of more than 1100days with an aspiration to run the Kalahari Desert 248km race.
He is a committed family man and loves spending time with his family. Themba is married to Marinkie in a union of more than 18 years; they have two daughters.
