Desnei Leaf-Camp

Senior Financial Advisor, ENGIE Southern Africa

For over 20 years, Ms Leaf-Camp has been involved in “powering” the development of Africa through enhanced access to affordable capital and access to safe and reliable electricity.  One of the forerunners in the IPP business in Africa, Desnei has worked for both IPPs and financial institutions raising over USD1.4 billion in financing for renewable energy projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, plus an additional USD170 million for non-energy related projects.

Ms. Leaf-Camp, who is currently engaged with ENGIE in southern Africa, has also worked for the AES Corporation in the United States and Cennergi, a South African IPP. One of her most exciting projects was the initial development of the Bujugali Hydropower Project, Uganda’s first IPP and Africa’s largest privately developed and funded hydropower project.

Between her employment with AES and ENGIE, Desnei was a Development Banker, leveraging her sector and regional experience to deepen access to limited recourse financing for infrastructure projects. She kicked off this phase of her career in 2003 with the Development Bank of Southern Africa before joining the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 2006.

Desnei holds a MBA in International Trade & Finance and a Masters of Arts Degree in International Development from the American University in Washington, DC.
