Dawn Mthombeni

Chief Risk Officer for the Engineering Services Unit at Absa

Dawn Mthombeni is the chief risk officer for the Engineering Services unit at Absa Group Limited. Her previous roles include chief controls officer, head of Solutions Enterprise and Supplier Development and the chief operating officer for the Corporate and Investment Banking responsible for the Africa operations. Dawn has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry. 

Recognised for her diligence, Dawn has been a great leader throughout her career as an executive who has successfully led large teams to achieve various milestones and business objectives. She was the head of Corporate and Investment Banking Shared Services at Standard Bank, where she has successfully lead the build of the Shared Services capability and operations models. 

Dawn is academically vested. She has earned an Advanced Management qualification through the International Institute of Management Development in Switzerland, a Master’s in Business Administration through GIBS and completed a Masters of Philosophy in Development Finance with Stellenbosch University. Dawn’s other academic qualifications include a BCom and an Honours Industrial Psychology.

Dawn serves as a non-executive board member in a number of companies and non-profit organisations, where she leads and directs companies and organisations. Dawn’s vision is to contribute positively to the growth of businesses in Africa and drive economic growth across the continent.
