Mondo Mazwai is a Member of the Competition Tribunal of South Africa. She adjudicates competition matters, involving mergers and acquisitions; and prohibited practices, brought before the Tribunal either by the Competition Commission or private parties. Where appropriate, remedies are imposed.
Prior to this, Mondo was the National Head of the competition department at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr. Her practice spanned all aspects of competition law. She has represented clients both in the private and public sectors in matters before the competition authorities. Some of her clients in the private sector included Coca-Cola, Aveng, Shell SA, Air Products, Lonmin, and EnviroServ. In the public sector, she acted inter alia for SAA, Transnet and the PIC.
Prior to joining Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, Mondo was the Chief Legal Counsel and Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Competition Commission of South Africa.
Mondo is the Chairperson of the Massmart Black Scarce Skills Trust, an employee share trust, and a trustee of the EnviroServ Employee Share Trust. She is a non-executive director on the board of Delta Enviromental Centre, a non-profit organisation offering environmental education and training.
She holds a B.Iuris from the University of the Western Cape and an LLB from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (previously Natal University). Mondo completed her articles at Cheadle Thompson and Haysom and practiced as an associate at the same firm before joining the Competition Commission.
