Ivan MorokeIvan Moroke’s informal journey into business and marketing includes running the family shebeen at 13 years of age in his parent’s four roomed house in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, driving a taxi over the weekend, working as a salesman in a sports shop and an exclusive man’s fashion store, distributing furniture store pamphlets and acting in corporate videos and TV adverts.

Ivan started his professional route at the coalface of all-marketing, i.e. direct selling. In his case, calling on shops in the rural area of the North West Province. The seven years at British American Tobacco (SA) afforded him an opportunity to gain experience along the business and marketing value chain in CRM, Sales, Key Accounts, Distribution Chain Management, Sponsorship and Promotions. The roles evolved from Sales Representative to Area Manager and then Regional Manager. His foray into consulting was launched at the international brand consultancy Added Value based in Cape Town. He joined the business at the lowest ranked position, taking a massive salary in exchange of working with some of the most brilliant marketing minds in the country. He went on to become Project Director and started a new a business unit under the Added Value brand focusing on small businesses.

Ivan then went on to Lowe Bull Advertising in Johannesburg as a Senior Strategy Planner. After a year, he joined the board as a shareholder and Strategy Director then the Managing Director of the Johannesburg office

He then joined the premier locally founded consultancy Yellowwood Future Architects as group Managing Director, an exciting business that allow one to engage at an executive level of various blue chip level, using marketing to achieve organizational internal and external objectives.

Wanting to focus more on business strategy and leadership of executives, he moved into the role of group Managing Director of TBWA\Hunt \Lascaris based in the Johannesburg office. After 18 months he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer to focus more on the strategic leadership of the Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban offices.

Ivan left advertising 8 months ago to launch his Insight and Marketing consultancy, Co-Currency.

He has just finished his two year tenure as Chairperson of Brand Council South Africa (BCSA) and now a director of the board. He is also the Vice-Chairperson of APEX Effective Awards.

Ivan holds a BComm degree from University of South Africa
