Alison Bengston Mali currently the Acting DDG: Curriculum, Management and Delivery in the Gauteng Department of Education. She is managing the Curriculum, Management and Delivery Branch, which comprises the following Chief Directorates: Curriculum Operations and Delivery, School Management and the Chief Directorate: Educational Districts Operations Management within the Gauteng Province.
Her role is to ensure the co-ordination of all line function operations, improving learner performance, improving the quality of teaching and learning and improving district support to schools.
Her expertise includes motivating and influencing others to drive change. She is also passionate in the development of leaders in education. Her legal and human resources qualifications have assisted her in being able to navigate the complex system of education and create powerful teams for driving change.
Alison has worked in key leadership roles within the systems value chain. This diverse experience has given her a unique insight into the education system at various levels. Alison is utilizing her unique experience to implement innovative and pioneering change strategies to improve learner performance such as the System-wide School Improvement Strategy. She has also been tasked to Project Manage System Change such as the District Data-driven Decision-making and more recently the Reorganization of Schools within Gauteng Province.
She holds the following qualifications: LLB (UNISA) (Admitted on the role of advocates (2007), Masters Diploma in Human Resources Management (RAU), Bachelor of Education (UNISA), Higher Education Diploma (UNISA), and Bachelor of Science (UKZN)She has been re – elected as the President of the Education Management Association of South Africa (EMASA). As the President of EMASA she has been able to engage in international debate and strengthen her leadership skills and influence in creating change in the education system nationally.
Her passion and mission is to improve learner performance in South African schools and she has dedicated her life to this end. In particular Alison dedicates herself to igniting a passion for education and learner performance throughout the leadership structures that she leads at Head Office, in districts, and the schools.
