Before taking up a Doctoral Fellowship at Columbia University in New York, Kayum Abdul Ahmed served as Chief Executive Officer of the South African Human Rights Commission from 2010-2015. His qualifications include a Masters of Laws (LLM) degree in international law and a Masters of Arts (MA) degree in anthropology. Prior to relocating to New York, and in anticipation of his mid-life crisis, Kayum and his amazing wife travelled across the African continent from Cairo to Cape Town. He is a Fellow of the seventh class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-South Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
