ALI SA Fellow, Dr Mpho Tsedu

The Africa Leadership Initiative South Africa (ALI SA) extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr Mpho Tsedu, Class XIII: Akani Fellow, on achieving his PhD in Political Studies from the Nelson Mandela University. This milestone crowns a career blending academic depth with high-level government service and media influence, exemplifying the values-based leadership ALI SA champions across its 14 fellowship classes and over 300 Fellows.

Scholarly and Practical Impact
Dr Tsedu’s doctoral research interrogates African political philosophies—Zikism, Consciencism and Black Consciousness—to unpack race, identity and power relations in the current epoch. His research profile extends to diplomacy, UN Security Council reform, and international political economy tensions. His journey from a BA at the University of the North, Turfloop, through Masterss and Honours at the University of Johannesburg, to this PhD, synthesizes theory with real-world roles as a Ministerial advisor and TV anchor shaping public discourse.

Today, Dr Tsedu serves on the SABC Board, LCX Board, National Lotteries Commission Distribution Agency and as Council member of the Chief Albert Luthuli Museum, positions that amplify his insights for Africa’s future. ALI SA celebrates this achievement as a testament to persistent excellence amid demanding commitments.

Dr Tsedu’s PhD strengthens ALI SA’s mission to develop enlightened leaders guiding the continent with integrity. The Fellowship looks forward to his ongoing contributions.

Thanks to our valued partners and to all the Fellows who continue to contribute in many ways.
