African tech giants, rise!

Janade du Plessis (ALI Fellow Class XIII: Mahube) is the co-managing partner of Africa Launch Ventures and Five35 Ventures. His ventures are implementing serious initiatives to see exponential tech growth in South Africa. His ventures are currently involved as:

  • a Gitex investor at the first ever GITEX Conference in Africa, and
  • partners in the WomHub Women in Tech (South Africa) to accelerate, scale and fund female entrepreneurs in tech.

The GITEX Conference in Marrakesh starts on 31 May. Africa Launch Ventures and Five35 Ventures are part of the Gitex investor team for the 3rd year running, and they’re especially excited as this year they will be hosting their first ever event in Africa.

Janade feels strongly: Africa makes sense! Our continent has been recognised as the worlds next biggest digital economy, and will see tech investment rocketing from $115 billion to $712 billion over the next 25 years. GITEX AFRICA connects tech titans, governments, start-ups, investors and global innovation hubs to accelerate, collaborate, and explore.

Africa Launch Ventures and Five32 Ventures are looking forward to meeting startups and investors. Please feel free to book a slot via the Gitex Africa App

GITEX AFRICA is the first-ever launch of GITEX GLOBAL (the worlds largest, most inclusive tech & startup event) outside the UAE.

WomHub Women in Tech

A week ago Standard Chartered Bank and WomHub Five35 Ventures signed the WomHub Women in Tech (South Africa) partnership agreement to accelerate, scale and fund female entrepreneurs in tech. Having a global bank of the calibre and reach as Standard Chartered Bank as a partner is a significant step forward for African tech entrepreneurs, and particularly female entrepreneurs who continue to face capital apartheid from investors and corporates, with less than 1% of all VC funding invested in female entrepreneurs.

Well done to Standard Chartered Bank for being bold in helping to break these barriers.

And lets take another bow to Naadiya Moosajee, Hema Vallabh, Anjani Harjeven and Victoria Harris who on a daily basis continue to create new pathways for female entrepreneurs to grow and scale sustainable global businesses.
