Beyond the borders of the Africa Leadership Initiative, is the Aspen Global Leadership Network, which is a worldwide community of successful, high-integrity, entrepreneurial leaders, named “Aspen Global Leadership Fellows”.
Because these Fellows have demonstrated leadership accomplishments and abilities, they are selected from 14 sector-specific Fellowships around the world. These Fellowships are modelled after the Aspen Institute’s flagship values-based leadership programme, as well as the Henry Crown Fellowship Programme, launched in 1997.
The Fellows enter their programme having demonstrated a great deal of personal success. They leave the programme, enthused and inspired to make a greater difference in their communities, as well as the world. The Fellows are also provided with an intimate forum for deep introspection, thought-provoking dialogue and interactive problem-solving.
In its essence, the Aspen Global Leadership Network is designed to inspire Fellows to stretch themselves — to take their leadership to greater heights and broaden their impact on the society at-large. The Network also connects Fellows through events such as the Action Forum, so that they can learn from, collaborate with, and support one another.
The ever-growing Aspen Global Leadership Network includes nearly 1,900 Fellows from 48 countries.
Fellows can use their businesses and positions to create new ventures and jobs. They can develop medical devices for children, fight rare genetic diseases, improve employability, or provide healthy meals to school children. They can also promote environmental sustainability, reduce infant mortality, raise classroom engagement, as well as stop ethnic violence. Over and above, they can keep children out of gangs, and battle corruption.
These are only a few of the opportunities Fellows are exposed to as they move from ‘thought to significance’.
