Baba Mashologu is the former head of public sector finance and black economic empowerment at Deutsche Bank, and a member of the Executive Committee of DB AG (South Africa). He joined Deutsche Bank in 2010 and has extensive investment banking experience in,South,Africa,having,entered,the,industry,in,2001.

Since joining Deutsche Bank, Baba’s experience now straddles traditional M&A and Global Markets, an uncommon occurrence. On the M&A side, he has been involved in a number of acquisitions and capital raisings across various sectors, most notably the acquisition by the Elephant Consortium of a BEE stake in Telkom SA Limited. Selected M&A experience includes the acquisition of Wetherlys by Ellerines, debt and equity capital-raising for Tshwarisano, the BEE investor in Sasol Oil, equity capital-raising for Nexus Connexion SA, the BEE investor in Neotel (Pty) Limited, the conversion by the Royal Bafokeng Nation of its royalties stream into equity in Impala Platinum Limited, the acquisition by IDC and Chinese investors of Palabora Mining and more recently the sale of Total Coal’s assets to a local buyer. On the Global Markets side, he has been involved in, amongst others, National Treasury’s USD2bn issuance (2013), Transnet’s global local currency issuance (ZAR5bn) (2013) and various,DCM,and.other,capital,raisings,for,Eskom.

Baba is the former President of the Association of Black Securities & Investment Professionals (2009 -2011). He is a former Board member of the Financial Services Sector Charter (2010 – 2011) and a Member of the DTI Advisory Panel on BBBEE (2009 – 2012). He is a Fellow of the seventh class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-South Africa, known as Dinatla (meaning “Giants” in Southern Sotho) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network
