
Ismail Dockrat is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of leadership experience across diverse sectors. He is widely recognised for leading organisational turnarounds, strengthening governance, and driving digital transformation.
An engineer by training, Ismail holds qualifications in Electronics Engineering and Programme Management, as well as an MBA from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business. His public sector exposure includes roles at CSIR, ARMSCOR, DENEL, Trade and Investment South Africa (TISA), WESGRO and Glodina. He has served on the boards of Cape Town Film Studios, Denel Personnel Solutions (Chairman), TurboMeca Africa, Denel Saab Aerostructures, Rheinmetall Denel Munition, and Centurion Aerospace Village. His career highlights include serving as CEO of WESGRO, CEO of Denel Aviation and CEO of Denel SAAB Aerostructures.
Ismail’s leadership has been recognised through prestigious accolades, including South Africa’s Boss of the Year award (2005). He is a Sainsbury Management Fellow, a Fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative, and a graduate of the Prince of Wales’s Business and Sustainability Programme.
He serves as the Chief Operating Officer of South African Tourism, where he brings his strategic and commercial acumen to promote the natural beauty and cultural richness of Southern Africa on a global stage.
