William Davis

William Davis is the National Manager of the loveLife Games. The loveLife Games is a unit within loveLife. It is an HIV-prevention programme that uses sports, recreation, arts and culture as tools to engage with young people between the ages of 12 and 19. loveLife promotes healthy, HIV-free living among South African teenagers. Organised under the auspices of the New loveLife Trust, loveLife combines a sustained high-powered multi-media campaign with nationwide community-level outreach and support programmes for youth. loveLife’s programmes are implemented by a national youth volunteer service corps known as groundBREAKERs and mpintshis in partnership with more than 200 community-based non-government organisations, 5 600 schools and 470 government clinics across South Africa. Having played and captained provincial cricket teams at every age group level, William later transferred his passion for playing and leading teams into coaching. He qualified as a UCBSA cricket coach and completed the National Sports Council (NSC) Sports Leader programme. Having found his niche, in 1998 he launched an indoor cricket school in the Eastern Cape. He was also an active member of the team involved in the start-up of the International Cricket Academy based at the University of Port Elizabeth. In 2005 William co-founded Sporting Opportunities, a national organisation that used sport as a catalyst to inspire values-based leadership amid young people of South Africa assisting in the process of galvanising the population toward positive change and development. Building on the successful platform created by Sporting Opportunities, William launched a community volunteer organisation called Gap Year South Africa. Gap Year South Africa harnesses the power of volunteerism and aims to connect the developed world with the developing world. William is a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch, having completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. He is a Fellow of the third class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-South Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
