
Tholinhlanhla Tholinhlanhla (Tholi) Gcabashe is a partner at Bowmans and head of the firm’s Corporate/M&A Department in Johannesburg. Admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africain 2006, he specializes in domestic and cross border mergers and acquisitions and advises on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters.
He trained and built his practice at Bowmans, with international experience as a foreign associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York and as an associate at White & Case LLP in Johannesburg. He became a partner at Bowmans in 2014 and has held leadership roles including co-head of M&A, elected member of the Partnership Board and member of the Risk and Partner Promotions Committees, before being appointed head of Corporate/M&A in 2024.
His professional excellence is recognised by leading international directories: Chambers Global for Corporate/M&A, IFLR1000’s Financial and Corporate Guide, and Legal 500 for Commercial, Corporate and M&A. Beyond practice, Tholi serves as a director of the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa and as a trustee of the Cisco Foundation Charitable Trust. He holds an LL.B from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a Certificate in the Law of Banking and Financial Markets from the University of the Witwatersrand and has completed the Leading Professional Services Firms Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
