Thabiso Thakali

Deputy Editor at The Sowetan

Thabiso Thakali is deputy editor at The Sowetan newspaper. He has held senior editorial positions as news editor and executive editor in the same publication. He was previously acting news editor of the Sunday Independent, political reporter for the Independent Group and senior reporter at The Saturday Star.

Thabiso has extensive experience in journalism working in various newsrooms spanning more than 20 years. In 2011, he was named National Press Club Print Journalist of the year and in 2013 he was the winner of Standard Bank Sikuvile Enterprise news category journalist of the year.

Thabiso is a published co-author of the A-Z of South African Politics 2019 Edition by Jacana. He was one of the two inaugural winners of the Henly Business School’s Sol Plaatje scholarship to study for a Post Graduate Diploma.

He holds a certificate in Business Studies from University of Lesotho, a Diploma in Journalism from Walter Sisulu University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Practice from Henly Business School.

Thabiso is currently pursuing his MBA with Henley Business School. Thabiso is married with three children and lives in Johannesburg.
