Dr Phathokuhle Zondi

Chief Specialist, Sports and Exercise Medicine, University of KwaZulu Natal

Dr Phathokuhle Zondi is a Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) physician and business leader committed to creating systems that enable fairness, opportunity and excellence in sport and health. A lifelong believer in the power of purpose-driven performance, she serves as Chief Specialist in SEM at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where she is leading the establishment of the discipline as both an academic and clinical pillar within the public health system. Through her consultancy, she advises organisations on clinical strategy, human performance and athlete welfare.

Across four Olympic cycles, Phatho has journeyed with athletes who embody courage, discipline and endurance – values that have shaped her own philosophy of leadership. Her work with World Rugby and the International Olympic Committee has deepened her conviction that true excellence is built not only on talent, but on the systems that nurture it. An avid endurance athlete, she finds joy in motion, peace in nature and clarity when tested. Inspired by the athletes she serves and her own journey of impact, motherhood and faith, she champions a vision of an Africa where movement transforms lives, collaboration drives progress and shared purpose turns potential into power.
