Bushra Razack is a community development specialist who served as CEO of Philippi Village for over six years. Philippi Village is an integrated business and community development hub in Cape Town, committed to expanding opportunity in under-resourced communities. Her work is rooted in inclusive innovation, community-led design, and systems-level transformation.
Bushra has extensive experience in multi-stakeholder engagement across Africa, including Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon and South Africa. She has led community consultations, facilitated cross-sector partnerships and supported organisations in navigating complex social ecosystems. She is recognised for her ability to map, mobilise and convene diverse stakeholders , from community members and entrepreneurs to government, funders and global institutions to co-create solutions that advance equity and long-term resilience.
Her journey in social impact began at the age of 12, when she represented South Africa at the Millennium Young People’s Congress in Hawaii and co-authored Rescue Mission, a youth assessment of the Millennium Development Goals launched at the World Summit for Sustainable Development.
Bushra has been voted one of the Mail & Guardian’s Mzansi Top 100 Young South African Leaders. She received the Power Woman of the Year Award in Innovation in 2018, won the Forty Under 40 Award in the Community Development category in 2023, was named Best Leader in Social Enterprise in Africa in 2024 and in 2025 was selected as one of 50 women globally to join the Estée Lauder Vital Voices Visionary Programme.
Bushra drives a human-centred approach to development, ensuring solutions are both impactful and truly inclusive. Her leadership blends commercial strategy with community intelligence — aligning economic opportunity, social innovation and justice to build thriving, future-ready communities.
