Dr. Luvuyo Bayeni was recently appointed as Chief Director of Human Resources at the National Department of Health, responsible for planning, training and development, and management of health in the national workforce.
Prior to taking his new role in the NDoH, Dr Bayeni has been an all-rounded clinician and administrator in the Eastern Cape where he earned the title of “Dr Fixit”. He started his career in Andries Vosloo district hospital in Somerset East, where he showcased his leadership capabilities. He was officially appointed as clinical manager for surgery at Cecilia Makiwane Regional Hospital, but had been deployed to serve in numerous leadership roles in the health system, ranging from Acting CEO in Livingstone Tertiary Hospital and Tower Psychiatric Hospital, to Circumcision Programme Manager and Joe Gqabi District Manager. He was technical advisor to the MEC for Health in the Eastern Cape for two years (including during the COVID-19 pandemic).
Dr Bayeni has been honoured as a major contributor to the health fraternity, and the South African Medication Association (SAMA) awarded him the title of Local Hero for Boarder Coastal Branch. He has been equally active in serving the sporting fraternity of the Eastern Cape, both as medical doctor and administrator. This earned him an Eastern Cape Legends Award for Football and Boxing during the recent MEC Awards in September 2023.
Dr. Luvuyo Bayeni is a medical graduate from MEDUNSA who also holds an MBA Degree from Nelson Mandela University. He is a grounded Christian who is strong on Servant Leadership and strives to have a positive impact on those that he comes across. He displays strong ethical leadership skills and is an advocate for a healthy mind, body and soul.
